This last week and a half has been filled with taking things away from Annie.  She is crawling really well now and is somehow always able to find the one thing on the floor that she isn’t supposed to have.

Nearly a month has passed since I triumphantly pushed up onto my hands and knees thereby making my initial announcement to mommy and daddy to prepare for the inevitable. Since then I have spent countless hours studying and experimenting, in the process mastering baby push ups and yoga poses. I’ve been sidetracked by the discovery of how to push up to sitting and backtracked by inadvertently learning to scoot backward. I’ve endured frustration, fussiness, face plants, false starts and failed attempts. And though there is still work to be done in perfecting my skill and improving my speed, I am prepared and excited to make the following official announcement:

Watch out world! Ready or not, here I come! I can crawl!!

Hyrum seized the opportunity to put his culinary creativity to work this morning. Seeing the frying pan that I had washed but not yet put away and the open box of cereal, he pushed a chair to the counter and declared that he was “making dinner.” He put about 1/3 of the box of cereal in the frying pan and proceeded to “cook” it before declaring that it was ready and he needed to bring it to the table. I humored him and carried it for him.

This is what Hyrum told daddy about it at dinner:

“I was cooking dinner on my stove and it was cereal and it was very hot! We can’t touch it! Very hot!”

But the next part was even better. I went to help Annie and next thing I knew, Hyrum told me I needed to come have dinner. He had gotten toddler bowls and spoons for both of us, served the cereal using a daddy sized spoon and even retrieved and poured the milk (which luckily was almost gone to begin with). After I sat down he said it was time to pray. After the prayer he told me that we were having cereal for dinner which he later declared to be soup. Best raisin bran soup I’ve ever had.

I’ve never done a tag on here before, but how could I say no to Christina?

So here they are, 7 random and/or weird facts about me (Laura):

1. I like to dance around our kitchen/dining/living room area, mostly cha cha.  Luckily Hyrum’s not old enough yet to be embarrassed by his mother’s dancing skills, or lack thereof.  In fact, after watching me so many times he developed his own version of the cha cha before he was even two years old.

2. Adam calls it the "Laura snack." Peanut butter on a slice of (hopefully) whole grain bread.  So simple.  So easy.  So good.  I like to tell myself its health food.

3. I don’t remember when the last time was I went to bed with the genuine expectation that I would be able to stay there until it was time to get up the next morning.  Annie has given me a few blessed nights of  6-7 hours straight so far (which is more than I could say for Hyrum at this age).  But even before that since you can’t sleep through the night without a potty break or two when you’re pregnant and since Hyrum was going through cycles of sleeping through the night for a few weeks and then going back to waking up once or twice each night for a few weeks until I think around the time Annie was born… I don’t know when the last time was I slept through the night on a regular basis.  Probably about 3 years ago.  On the positive side, I sleep really well whenever I get the chance.

4. I love beautiful things.  I could look at a beautiful sunset or scene or painting or my children’s pretty faces for hours (not that they would let me).  You don’t want to go to an art museum with me unless you want to spend hours there.  I also really like to create beautiful things, but being somewhat of a perfectionist I have a tendency to get frustrated.  Usually the longer I look at a painting or drawing I’ve done the less I like it.  Which is probably why most of my artwork is sitting in a box or closet somewhere.  That and I haven’t gotten them framed.

5. I was in a girl’s band in high school.  That probably sounds like a much bigger deal than it was, but it’s kind of fun to say it anyway.  We created our band to be a feminine addition to our school’s otherwise male "Battle of the Bands" and so we only had one song and two performances.  But still it was one of the funnest things I’ve ever done.

6. I have a hard time finishing things that I start.  It’s true for projects and jobs around the house- for instance I can never seem to quite get a room completely clean.  There’s always still one pile of papers or something left (not that this one is always due to my lack of effort).  But I also don’t like to finish off things such as food or other commodities.  Its like how I don’t want to use the last piece of blank paper or eat the last brownie because then it will be gone and I won’t be able to use it/eat it at some later time when I want to.  Or like the bottle of salad dressing with a couple of tablespoons left in it that sits in the fridge for months before we decide its too old and throw it away.  Or like how when we were growing up, my sisters and I would make our Halloween candy last, supplemented by Christmas candy, until Easter, which we would then slowly pick away at until next Halloween.

7. I really like yoga (if you’ve never tried it, its not as weird as you might think, or at least as I thought before I really knew what it was).  Sadly, I basically haven’t done it for about 6 months (I wonder why…), but I did prenatal yoga right up until Annie was born and it felt so great.  I always felt very  uncoordinated and un-athletic (new word) growing up, so I was so happy to find something that I felt I could actually do well.  Here are a few reasons its great for me: my only competition is myself, I can do it anywhere, anytime (a.k.a. at home when the kids will let me), and I don’t have to spend any money to do it!

In keeping with my tendency to not finish what I start, and because I don’t know if there are even 7 bloggers that read my blog who haven’t already been tagged, I’m keeping this open ended.  If you read this and haven’t already been tagged and would like to be, I tag you.  And if you would be so kind as to leave a comment letting me know that I’ve tagged you, that would be great, too.
